ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
The painter restorer Michael Nikolov

Born in Sofia. A descendant of the old priestly family of prominent woodcarvers, painters and restorers of public and international recognition.
Grandmother of Mr. Nikolov, Pavlina Maksimova a painter restorer – was educated in Russia major restoration and conservation. She taught him his first lessons in iconography and frescoes. His grandfather Stanko /Stanio/ Nikolov / was recognized in 1930 as a Master / restorer - woodcarver. Through them he had the opportunity to touch and to learn the main points of storage and preservation of cultural values. He appreciates too the older generation restorers Drago Peshev and Prof. Asen Vasiliev who worked with the grandparents of Michael and also learned from them a great deal of knowledge. Thank's to them He got deep in science restoration and it has captured Michael's heart ever since. He found out it was his vocation. His father Marin Nikolov is also a restorer of woodworks.
Mihail Nikolov graduated in 1995 University of Sofia " St. Kliment of Ohrid" - Master Theologian.
1995 - 1999 year He specialized Christian art and restoration of cultural monuments in Greece and Cyprus.
2000 - 2007 year Specializations: Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece, Cyprus / Painting, Murals, Restoration and Conservation /. Master in three majors recognized by the Law of Crafts "Painting and fresco", "Restoration and conservation of cultural monuments" and "Working and application of gold coatings".
2008 - 2011 year Specializations - Conservation and Restoration: Germany / Horneman Institute and the Academy of Applied Arts, Koln, Hildesheim / Conservation and Restoration: / Bulgaria / University of Shumen " Episkop Konstantin of Preslav".
He has excellent knowledge of Hebrew, Greek / all forms / Slavic, Church Slavonic, Old Russian, Old Bulgarian, Latin, English and Greek languages, which is an advantage in the restoration and iconographic work.
Author of scientific and historical articles related to restoration activities and technologies for restoration of museum objects, churches and monasteries, and made scripts for documentaries broadcast on Television and Nova TV, TV 7 days and more international TV stations. He is an author of the textbook and syllabus according European educational frame and international standards for training in conservation and restoration.
Teacher of Theology, Artist-restorer, expert and art copyist.
Lecturer in Painting and Murals and application of gold coatings in RZK - /National Craft Chambers/ - Sofia.
He has won international awards.
He has awarded over 25 honorary diplomas and certificates as a recognition for the protection, promotion and development of museums and heritage sites in Bulgaria and abroad.
Member of AFCSB-RCCM; ICCMGR. Member of the Board of RZK-Sofia and Chairman of Committees in the acquisition of qualifications /2006-2010/.

Michael Nikolov has painted many churches and chapels consecrated by the bishop of the Orthodox Church and Patriarch Maxim of Bulgaria and clergy of the Greek, Macedonian and Serbian churches.

He currently works on scientific work related to the restoration and conservation activities.

His work as a team is always an advantage. Leader for restoration and training activities at University of Sofia, Company "Castro", municipalities and institutions, church trustees, foundations. Organization and preparation of specialized restoration and iconographic programs and the issuance of specialized scientific literature, multimedia, printing and publishing in the implementation of projects with ministries, embassies in Bulgaria and abroad. He took part charitably in projects related to restoration of cultural monuments - icons and murals for churches and monasteries, as well as promoting them in Bulgaria and abroad through the media, internet and TV.
The background where he works, museums and his colleagues help him to acquire more skills - by practice, seminars, symposia, scientific expeditions at home and abroad. Training over the years it gathers with people who learned the knack of the profession.
He has continued to maintain his proffesional form working with prominent profesors and this dialogue helps him to know the latest technologies in restoration.
He works with some of the best teams in restoration activities of cultural monuments.
He always keeps the rule to work respecting the dogmatic-canonical and iconographic requirements, as well as technology and technique for restoration, painting and murals, thanks to which all the achieved projects were opened with formal ceremonies and consecration.
